Volunteers Needed

Hello potential volunteers!

First of all, let me thank all of you for everything you do for this important professional organization.  We are all volunteers, and we are all spread molecules thin with everything else in our lives.  Thank you!

Second, we’ve had some good response from Yale graduate students and undergrads volunteering to mentor visitors with the three activities we have to bring to walk-up events.  But we’re still short of folks for three crucial dates.

We still need Sunday, Oct 21, 1 to 3 PM, Eli Whitney Museum and Workshop, 915 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Walk-up chemistry activities for all ages. NEED 2 more volunteers for this event. This is the museum’s Sunday afternoon walk-in event, and they have agreed to have us for two Sundays—the bookends of NCW.

Monday, Oct 22, 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Bishop Woods Architecture & Design Magnet School, 1481 Quinnipiac Ave, New Haven. Activity tables for school science night. NEED 4 volunteers for this event. Spanish speakers would be especially welcome.  This school is home of two young science fair winners whom we honored at our May meeting, and the school has planned their first Science Night.  Dr. Tim Gersch, their teacher, says he has several activities and many enthusiastic 7th graders ready to staff their tables.  Supper is included!  Let’s join them!

Sunday, Oct 28, 1 to 3 PM Eli Whitney Museum and Workshop, 915 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Walk-up chemistry activities for all ages. NEED 2 more volunteers for this event.

What does HELP mean? I’m bringing three tested, charming, appealing activities to each event.  Events are two hours long, and you do need to be standing.  You can learn what to do very quickly and help visitors enjoy the art, science, beauty, and surprise of these activities.  Being with kids not your thing?  Fine!  We also need a meet-and-greeter to hand out schedules of events and Celebrate Chemistry magazines in Spanish and in English. There are  many Spanish-speaking students and parents at this school, and you could help them feel so welcome.

Here’s the link to sign up

If you have a child, niece/nephew, grandchild, neighbor of at least 10 years old, they would be a wonderful helper at any of these events.

I need you.
